Sand Kiaat is also known in English as Large-leaved Albizia. This tree yields good quality grained Wood that is like Kiaat (Pterocarpus angolensis). It may have a purplish brown or black heartwood. It is one of the most widely used timber trees and is considered second only to stinkwood for making furniture. It is strong, durable, attractive and is also used for canoe building and carving as well as for parquet flooring, canoe paddles, drum, cabinet making, doors, windows, and for fuel. The wood works and turns well and only shrinks slightly when drying. Wood to the north of South Africa is usually lighter. Once dry, the wood is stable.
