Brown ivory is also known as Bird Plum and is a tree native to southern and eastern Africa. The wood is a red brown which is faintly pink tinged, occasionally with a blackish streak. The texture is medium to fine and even. The wood is hard and attractive, suitable for quality furnitureand things like tool handles and pestles, and ideal for crafts. Brown Ivory is difficult to source and when available, considered a valuable exquisite wood.
